...one of the first topics for discussion should be the message board cull, and the ham-fisted way it was pulled off, not least, as I've mentioned several times now, almost three hours too early.
There's a problem with that, though, that the programme really isn't set up to deal with. As with the last time the boards were messed with, 'Feedback' will probably have one or two board users in the studio, voicing their criticisms at someone from the Beb's technical staff, and maybe they'll do a good job of holding that staffer to account. Then again, maybe they won't. If messageboards are their metier, after all, why should they be comfortable in a 'live chat' environment, when under normal circumstances, they would have time to ponder their words and post a considered response, asking just the right questions?
'Feedback' has never had a messageboard, which is why I had to create this one. Consequently, there is no reason to think the programme's staff has any particular sympathy with the BBC's 'boarding community.
I'm not sure the following idea is practical, because I don't know how long it will be before 'Feedback' returns to the airwaves, but one way of creating a level playing field might be for the programme to set up a conversation online beforehand, between board users and staff, in which points could be raised that could be covered in greater depth on the programme. The real difficulty with this, from a board user's perspective, though, would not be time, but the historical unwillingness of the technical staff to have a conversation about their mistakes.
Would 'Feedback' be willing to give it a shot, though? If this thread itself is not considered appropriate, here are some alternative venues. Anyone reading this is welcome to suggest others...
